THE REGION AND THINGS TO DO AND SEE.

Esparoutis is situated in the Ceou Valley just 2.km north of the village of Saint Cybranet, and 2.5km south of Castelnaud-la-Chapelle on the Dordogne River.

The Céou river passes by the property, just up the road, at the bridge,  Pont Du Cause. It arrives from a spring in the ground near Rocamadour in the Lot region. Only  55kms long,  it is cold and fresh and renown as one of the cleanest streams in the Périgord region. It is a great spot to paddle and swim in the heat of summer.

You can enjoy a morning bike ride, go right on to the cycle path that passes the house to Castelnaud just 2 km and buy croissants for breakfast at the local bakery/patisserie.

Along the narrow lane way from Esparoutis, you can take an easy walk to Saint Cybranet along the Céou valley. Further south 7km is the stone village of Daglan. A lovely route that meanders along the Céou valley from Daglan to Castelnaud through walnut groves and fields of corn and pretty sunflowers. The pathway is very flat and with no traffic, It is ideal for easy, leisurely rides, so you may want to bring your bikes, if not there are 2 bike rentals at Castelnaud at the beginning of the track.   .

Here is a region of France of outstanding beauty, medieval towns, chateaux and gourmet food delights. It offers many activities and very popular with Families.

In Summer the Dordogne river is a perfect place for canoeing swimming and picnics located just 2km from the property.

 

There are so many castles to visit, with exhibitions of medieval warfare and fortresses perched up high on steep rock faces. Elegant private chateaux of noble and famous. Richard the lion heart was at Beynac Chateaux during the 100 year wars with England and in the 60's the the famous Afro American Cabaret star from St Louis,

Josephine Baker, who was the adored star of the Parisian Cabaret scene, retired to Chateau Milandes.

 

The region has a long history of french gourmet food production, duck, black truffles, walnuts and cepe mushrooms. The fois gras produced in the region is sold all over the world. There are lively day and night markets in every town, and the local specialities found in bistros and fine dining establishment everywhere.

It is here in the Dordogne region you will find the most of “Les Plus Belles Villages de France” -most beautiful villages of France.

The Dordogne has 10% of the chateaux in

France including spectacular examples within a five-minute drive.

Unmissable  are the villages of La Roque Gageac, Domme, Monpazier, St Cyprien and Sarlat. The famous caves  with amazing  prehistoric drawings and engravings can be found a 40 minute drive to the Vezere river Valley at les Ezyies and Rouffignac. At Montignac you will find Lascaux International Museum of Prehistory. Here you can visit the stunning replica of what is considered to be the sistine chapel of prehistoric art.

The area is excellent for hiking, walking and cycling with many quiet back roads, and a mixture of relatively flat valleys and some more challenging hills onto the plateau. From the heights you will have spectacular views to the villages and countryside below.

Here is a region of France that has so much to see and do, you could spend a life time and you will still never visit all it has to offer.
